Massage Therapy as a health care profession in Canada, has evolved over the past 100 years. In Ontario, British Columbia, and Newfoundland/Labrador massage therapy is a regulated health care profession which provides the highest standards of professional training in North America. All Registered Massage Therapists(RMT) must successfully complete the registration exams set by the provincial regulating body. Like many other health care professionals, they must also continue with post-graduate education to maintain registration as an RMT.

Registered Massage Therapist work with both able bodied and permanently disabled people, supporting them in maintaining and regaining their quality of life. They assist patients/clients in the care and rehabilitation of soft tissue and joints. They also assist in the management and reduction of stress. By addressing injuries and stress in the early stages, their work can contribute to the prevention of chronic conditions. Based on research, the average wage of RMT is 50/hour.
